Requirements

Are you interested in being a part of the Palm Beach State Drumline?

The goal of the Palm Beach State Drumline is to create an exciting musical experience for audience members through energetic and appeasing performances. As ambassadors for the College, we represent all students by setting the highest standards and maintaining a level of achievement that displays professionalism, talent and pride in our activity. As the group continues to grow, we will continue to push the standards and commit ourselves to nothing less than excellence. One of the most unique aspects of our program is our fundamental & development system that is in place to assist students of all levels gain the skills necessary to excel on the drumline.

The Drumline in currently open to ALL Palm Beach State College Students, and participation is based on a preliminary audition for placement onto one of four instruments (Snare, Tenor, Bass, Cymbals).

Requirements

Training Sessions

  1. Snare & Tenor - previous experience is suggested. In some cases, students can learn these instruments during training sessions and make enough progress to earn a spot.
     

  2. Bass Drum & Cymbals - previous experience is suggested, but not required. Much of the technique and music information is included in the technique packet, and it is recommended that any interested student prepares using these materials.
     

  3. Must be a student, currently enrolled at Palm Beach State College.
     

  4. Must be able to perform physical activities.
     

  5. Must be able to attend all scheduled rehearsals. Exceptions will be made at the discretion of the director in regards to certain work, family, and emergency circumstances.

Prior to auditions, Training Sessions are held for all instruments to discuss technique fundamentals, assist with audition materials, enhance and/or help develop music reading abilities, and prepare interested students with anything that they need. These training sessions are the best way to get a feel and understanding for what the drumline is like, and what some of the expectations and styles are. The sessions are open to any currently enrolled student, transfer students, or incoming freshmen (high school seniors).

Auditions

Auditions are held 2 times throughout the year to allow participation for students that are involved in the varying school terms. These dates are listed below as well as on our Calendar.

All auditionees are expected to learn the audition music which can be found HERE, and be prepared for auditions with the following:

  • 3 Ring Binder with Audition Material in Sequential Order

  • Pencil & Highlighter

  • Water or Gatorade

  • Ear Plugs (Suggested, but not required)

  • Marching Sticks/Mallets (Sticks will be provided during training sessions as well)

  • Good Attitude, Open Mind, and Good Vibes!
